With a Pencil in My Pocket is a social artwork. 150 people are sharing six subscriptions to "500 Colored Pencils" - each receiving one pencil per month for 20 months. Every month each of us seeks out a manifestation of our pencil’s color name – a place, person, thing, creature, activity – that somehow embodies the essence of the color. These experiences are documented by writing a short story or vignette with that month's pencil in our project journals.
She should have a collar and lead (if she'd agree to it) in this color. Blue velvet - to me - is the color of the dress on the Madame Alexander doll I desperately wanted when I was a child. It's not a color I'd look good in (beautiful though it appears in your essay), but it's such a lovely color I'd be willing to change in any necessary ways to be able to wear it and look as beautiful as that Madame Alexander doll did.
